The sun rose with a golden glow through fog-encased trees this morning, and in that quiet light, I stood in my studio with my newest painting in progress: Dawn of the Japanese Fire Horse. Both the painting and the studio/gallery around me are evolving at the same time, and there’s something deeply gratifying about pausing to see what has been accomplished while imagining the next steps still to come.

The Japanese Fire Horse is a rare and powerful zodiac sign, appearing only once every 60 years. In its history and folklore, it represents fierce independence, passion, and unstoppable momentum. It is a symbol of bold energy — a spirit that refuses to be contained. In this painting, I’m working to capture that feeling of emergence: the horse stepping forward through mist and light, carrying the warmth of fire and the promise of a new beginning.

As I paint, I find myself reflecting on the people who have shaped this journey — those who arrived at exactly the right pivotal moments, offering encouragement, wisdom, and perspective. Every lesson learned has helped steer me in the direction I’m meant to travel. I’m profoundly thankful to everyone who has touched and enriched my life and the life of my family. Their presence is woven into every brushstroke.

I have always loved horses — their grace, strength, and sense of freedom. Creating this piece feels like standing at the edge of a new chapter, ready to ride forward into bold and exciting adventures. The Fire Horse embodies that anticipation: courage paired with motion, fire paired with purpose.

My hope is that this work carries a sense of optimism and forward movement. As this painting continues to unfold, I’m reminded that each of us is moving toward a horizon filled with possibility. I hope this season brings you closer to the future and the goals you dream of, and that you feel inspired to ride forth and discover the adventures waiting for you.

Always,

— Pat
